What is Tyrvaya (varenicline solution) for?
Tyrvaya (varenicline solution) is a highly selective cholinergic agonist indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.[1]
It is available in tablet form, each containing 60 sprays of varenicline solution.[1]
How does Tyrvaya (varenicline solution) work?
Dry eye disease is a condition in which the eyes do not produce enough tears, or also when the eyes do not make the right type of tears or tear film. The parasympathetic nervous system, the “rest and digest” system, controls tear film homeostasis. It does so partially via the trigeminal parasympathetic pathway in the nose.[2]
The active ingredient in Tyrvaya, varenicline, is believed to activate the trigeminal parasympathetic pathway, thereby increasing tear film production. The exact mechanism of action of Tyrvaya is unknown at this time.[2,3]
